OCEANIA SETS SAIL FOR PARIS
The Royal Academy’s Oceania will be setting sail for Paris in early 2019, following its hugely successful London showing, where it has won 5 star reviews from critics. With over 200 objects spanning 500 years, the show celebrates the extraordinary art, navigational skills and social and cultural traditions of the indigenous peoples of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia
In London, where Real Studios’ London scheme played off the neoclassical architecture of the RA with strong colours and bold lighting, the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, Paris – designed by Jean Nouvel - requires a distinctively different approach in order to frame the objects, highlight the key themes of voyaging and cultural exchange, and maximise impact in its open-plan and contemporary spaces. It will open in March 2019.
