REAL STUDIOS REVEALS GEOLOGICAL TREASURES AT LAPWORTH
With HLF funding now secured, Real Studios is steaming ahead with a major new exhibition design for Birmingham University's best kept secret, the 100-year-old Lapworth Museum. The scheme, won in a competitive pitch, will help establish the Lapworth in its rightful position, as one of the UK's leading geology museums. Housed in a handsome Edwardian building on the University campus, the Lapworth has a world class collection of fossils, minerals and gem stones, many of them contributed by leading local industrialists and inventors as they excavated and mined around the region. Real Studios is working with Associated Architects on the expansion and improvement of facilities - in effect, doubling the available space. Real Studios' scheme clarifies key narratives around local geological evolution and industry. New interpretation will highlight how the collection - and its figurehead, Professor Lapworth himself - changed the way scientists think about geology.
