Océanie
Client: Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, Paris
A completely different strategy was required to deliver the design for Oceania as it moved from its hugely successful run at the Royal Academy to Jean Nouvel’s Musée du quai Branly in Paris. The ‘plastic’ form of the architecture is without decoration, making the Oceanic art seem inherently at home.
Taking full advantage of the large, fluid contemporary spaces we evoked the uninterrupted horizons of sea and sky of Oceania, against which the remarkable, sculptural objects were silhouetted. Where necessary to support the narrative, we inserted intimate, enclosed spaces to focus on specific themes and house the show’s powerful AV elements and signature artworks.
